Railjets and sleepers to the Alps
About By rail from Budapest and Belgrade
Budapest is a natural starting point for the Austrian and Swiss Alps by train. Railjets from Budapest Keleti run to Vienna and on through Salzburg to Munich; the Kálmán Imre EuroNight sleeper runs overnight to Munich, and the Kálmán Imre – Wiener Walzer to Zurich through Innsbruck and Feldkirch. St. Anton has its own station on the Arlberg line, Mayrhofen is reached from Jenbach on the Zillertalbahn, Kitzbühel by changing at Wörgl, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen by regional train from Munich. From Belgrade, fast Soko trains already run to Novi Sad and Subotica, and through trains to Budapest on the rebuilt line are expected with the December 2026 timetable change. Our sister guides’ rail page has the routes, itineraries and the latest status.
