About Little Cottonwood Canyon road
The route to Alta climbs for 8 miles at a steep 7.2–11.7 per cent grade, and 64 avalanche paths cross it. In storms the canyon is often restricted to 4x4 or AWD vehicles with snow tyres or chains, and it closes for avalanche control; check UDOT’s road information before you set out. From 11 December, parking at Alta needs a reservation on Fridays to Sundays and holidays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
