About Hotel Chalet Svizzero

Chalet Svizzero began just after the war as a typical Swiss chalet and is still owned and run by the same family, now in its fourth generation. It is 400 metres from the centre and the lifts, with 28 rooms, two junior suites in a rebuilt chalet, a cosy spa with a terrace hot tub and a restaurant of Aosta Valley dishes and wines.

A family chalet

The Chalet Svizzero was built just after the war as a typical Swiss chalet, renovated in the 2000s, and is still owned and run by the same valley family, now in its fourth generation. It is 400 metres from Courmayeur’s historic centre and the lifts, with views of the Dent du Géant and the village of Dolonne. The tone is relaxed: children and dogs are welcome, and formality is banished, as the hotel puts it.

The spa

The spa is small and very cosy: a sauna with a cold plunge, a hammam with scented steam, an ionised relaxation area, a little massage room and a large solarium terrace with a hot tub. It opens from 2.30pm to 8pm, the masseur works every afternoon, and the whole spa can be booked privately for up to eight people, with dinner served there if you wish. Hotel guests also get reduced entry to the thermal baths at Pré-Saint-Didier.

Formality is banished, in the hotel’s words: cordiality, smiles and tolerance reign.

Rooms

There are 28 rooms, from doubles and superior doubles to triples, family rooms and two suites. In front of the hotel, a rebuilt Swiss chalet holds two junior suites of about 36 m², one per floor, each with its own entrance and kitchenette: the ground-floor suite has a small private garden, the attic suite a large balcony.

Eating and drinking

The restaurant is all wood, with a terrace over the green and Dolonne. The menu changes several times a season and features all the Aosta Valley DOP products, Fontina first, in Italian cooking and lightly reworked local dishes; raclette and fondue bourguignonne are the sharing dishes, best booked ahead. The wine list runs to more than 150 labels, with Aosta Valley wines in pride of place, and the sommelier leads tastings in the cellar. The lounge bar has a fire lit all winter.

Our advice: book the chalet junior suite with the garden, reserve the spa privately for your group one evening, and order the raclette.
