About Grand Hotel Union

The Grand Hotel Union, built between 1903 and 1905 in the Vienna Secession style, stands on Miklošičeva cesta a short walk from Prešeren Square and the Triple Bridge. Its 111 rooms keep high ceilings and chestnut floors, its wellness zone has an indoor pool facing Ljubljana Castle, and Kavarna Union has been a meeting place for more than a century.

Ljubljana’s Art Nouveau landmark

The Union was completed in 1905, its façade of garlands and female figures a showpiece of the Vienna Secession style, and it was once among the largest and most modern hotels in south-east Europe. Prešeren Square and the Triple Bridge are a short walk away, and the airport about 30 minutes by car, with Krvavec close to it.

The wellness zone

The wellness area sits in the penthouse of the adjoining Eurostars uHotel. There is an indoor pool looking out to Ljubljana Castle, a rooftop pool and open terrace with city views, massages, relaxation and beauty treatments, and a VIP suite with an infrared sauna and whirlpool. The gym is open 24 hours.

Once one of the largest and most prestigious hotels in south-east Europe, in the hotel’s words.

The wellness zone opens 07:00–21:00 on weekdays, 09:00–22:00 on Saturdays and public holidays and 09:00–21:00 on Sundays. Use is included for up to two hours; book at reception, as space is limited.

Rooms and suites

Superior Comfort rooms, 21 m², have Art Nouveau-inspired décor, chestnut floors, high ceilings and original furniture; Grand Deluxe rooms, 27 m², mostly overlook the pedestrian street. Studio apartments of 36 m² have a kitchenette, Junior Suites measure 35 m², and two-bedroom suites 66 m² and 73 m². The Grand Corner Suite, 81 m², looks over Prešeren Square, the Triple Bridge and the castle, and the 130 m² Grand Union Suite has an Art Nouveau lounge and a balcony over the street.

Eating and drinking

Kavarna Union, with more than a hundred years of history, serves cakes, pastries, tea and coffee in an Art Nouveau room from 10:00 to 22:00, and the wine cellar pours Slovenian wines. Breakfast runs from 07:00 to 10:00.

Our advice: book the Grand Corner Suite for the view, drive up to Krvavec for a day on the slopes, and come back for a swim facing the castle and cake at Kavarna Union.
