The back story

About Krvavec: the back story

Few capitals can ski before lunch and be back in town for an afternoon coffee. From Ljubljana, Krvavec is 25 km away; from its airport, just 8. A cable car lifts you from the fields of Cerklje na Gorenjskem into a high bowl of pistes between 1,450 and 1,971 metres, facing the Kamnik–Savinja Alps.

The capital’s mountain

Krvavec rises at the southern edge of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, above the village of Cerklje na Gorenjskem. RTC Krvavec, the lift company, describes it as one of the best-kept and most visited ski resorts in Slovenia, and its position explains why: 25 km from Ljubljana, 17 km from Kranj and only 8 km from Ljubljana’s airport at Brnik, which the resort says makes it the nearest ski area to an international airport in Europe.

Up by cable car

The day starts at the lower cable-car station, where there is parking for 500 cars. The cable car carries you to Gospinca, the plateau at the heart of the ski area, where the ski school, the ski service and the rental shop wait in the wooden house by the Tiha dolina chairlift. From there, 30 km of groomed pistes spread between 1,450 and 1,971 metres, kept white with natural and machine-made snow.

Land at Brnik in the morning, ski Krvavec by noon.

On the mountain

Hotel Krvavec, at Tiha dolina, calls itself the highest hotel in Slovenia: you step out of the door onto the slope, and its saunas open straight onto the snow. On Friday and Saturday evenings the sledging run is lit, and the cable car, the Tiha dolina chairlift and a cup of Krvavec tea are all part of the ticket. For a celebration, a cable-car cabin becomes a private dining room for up to four, with a three-course dinner by Jezeršek catering and Gostilna Krištof.

Every budget

The 2026/27 pre-sale price for an adult day pass is €43, with children at €27. Muštrinka’s apartments on the mountain sleep families and groups, and Ljubljana’s hotels, half an hour away, put the capital’s restaurants within reach every evening.

Our advice: buy passes online before the season for the best price, come on a weekday if you can, and stay for the Friday night sledging.
