About Hotel Kvarner

Hotel Kvarner, built in 1884, is in its own words the first hotel on the Adriatic coast and the oldest in Opatija. It stands by the sea in a park beside the Lungomare promenade, with 55 rooms and suites, a spa zone with two Finnish saunas and a Turkish bath, a new seawater pool, Restaurant Isadora and the Crystal Hall ballroom.

Opatija’s first hotel

The Kvarner opened in 1884, and the hotel calls itself the first on the Adriatic coast. A restoration that began in 2019 used 290 paint and material probes to research the building’s original appearance. It stands in a park by the sea, beside the Lungomare promenade, with Platak’s winter slopes above the coast.

Spa and pool

The Spa Zone has two Finnish saunas, a Turkish bath and a relax zone, open 09:00–20:00; the fitness studio, with Matrix equipment, opens 08:00–20:00, and both are included in the room rate. The beauty and massage centre has a VIP Lotus room for two with a jacuzzi. Outside, a new 9 × 9 m seawater pool opens in 2026, and the Blue Flag beach has loungers and parasols included for guests.

The first hotel on the Adriatic coast, in the hotel’s words, since 1884.

Rooms and suites

There are 55 rooms and suites over four floors. Superior doubles measure 23–32 m², on the street side or with a sea view and balcony; Junior Suites 37–43 m² face the garden; and Suites of 42–49 m² have a sea view, a terrace and a separate living room.

Eating and drinking

Restaurant Isadora (the dancer Isadora Duncan was among the hotel’s early guests) cooks fish, local and Mediterranean dishes with a list of more than 100 wines; the newly renovated terrace looks over the Lungomare. The Crystal Hall, the largest ballroom in Opatija in the hotel’s words, opens onto the terrace.

Our advice: book a Suite with a sea-view terrace, spend a day on Platak, and come back for the sauna and dinner at Isadora.
