About Das Freiberg
Das Freiberg is a small, family-run four-star design hotel on the south-western edge of Oberstdorf, with only 27 rooms and suites. It has a heated outdoor pool filled with Oberstdorf spring water, a garden-inspired spa with a salt sauna and herbal sauna, a Heu Spa in the original 1911 house, and three restaurants.
On the edge of Oberstdorf
Das Freiberg sits on the south-western edge of Oberstdorf, on what it calls the chocolate side, with views of the Nebelhorn and the ski-jump arena. It is family-run, with only 27 rooms and suites, and proudly a little crazy.
Pool and spa
The heated outdoor pool measures 10 by 5 metres, with massage jets, and is filled with pure Oberstdorf spring water, heated sustainably by heat recovery: 35 °C in winter, 25 °C in summer. The spa has a garden feel, with a moss wall, a round shower like a garden pavilion and an ice fountain. There is a sauna with heat-storing salt stones, a milder herbal climate sauna and a relaxation room. In the original house, built in 1911, the Heu Spa offers a hay sauna, a hay steam bath and hay-pillow loungers. A yellow telephone by the pool takes drinks orders. Treatments use Dr. Barbara Boos Naturcosmetic and Kurland oils.

Rooms and suites
Rooms are individually designed, a colourful mixtape that still works, as the hotel says. Some look over the roofs of Oberstdorf to the Nebelhorn and the ski jump; attic rooms have high timber ceilings and balconies; one suite mixes Bauhaus and farmhouse, with a bath. Beds are box springs of 200 × 200 cm or longer.
Eating and drinking
There are three restaurants: the Jagdhaus for local cooking, the Fetzwerk for fresh food trends, and the Maxi Genussreich for fine dining. Breakfast runs until noon, the new Café Fetziskus opened in January 2026, and the lounge serves drinks.
Our advice: book a room with a Nebelhorn view, swim in the outdoor pool as the snow falls, and try the hay sauna in the old house.
