Hotel Åregården opened in 1895 as Hotel Åreskutan, Åre’s first hotel, and took its present name after a renovation at the end of the First World War. In the centre of the village, with views of Åresjön, it has 54 rooms, a suite and two apartments, a sauna and relax area and a gym, two restaurants and two bars.

Åre’s first hotel

The railway to Trondheim opened in 1882 and brought the first tourists, and in 1895 Kristina Hansson built and ran Hotel Åreskutan, Åre’s first hotel. A society pavilion followed in 1899. In 1914 the restaurateur Agnar Meurling took over, and near the end of the First World War a major renovation with the architect Karl Güettler gave the hotel its name, Åregården, and the character it keeps today. Its lobby and bar have long been the village’s meeting place.

Sauna, relax and gym

In the lower part of the hotel there is a shared sauna with a relax area, renovated in 2017, and next to it a gym opened in winter 2020 with a treadmill, exercise bike, cable machine and weights.

Rooms

There are 54 rooms, one suite and two hotel apartments, with views of Åresjön and the mountains, a short walk from the slopes and the square.

Eating and drinking

Restaurang Åregården offers a gastronomic dinner in the hotel’s cosy dining room, reopening in December. Vinbaren pairs exciting flavours with an impressive wine list, the Lobbybaren mixes cocktails in the winter season, and the Sadelbaren serves stylish après-ski in the hotel’s historic rooms. Hotel guests can charge everything to their room.

Our advice: ask for a room facing Åresjön, start the evening at the Sadelbaren, and book dinner at Restaurang Åregården followed by a glass at Vinbaren.
