About Riffelalp Resort 2222m

Riffelalp Resort 2’222m stands alone on the mountain above Zermatt, reached by railway, ski-in and ski-out in winter, with the Matterhorn in view from many of its rooms. Every stay includes Spa 2’222m, with its indoor and outdoor pools, and mountain-guide experiences; there are three restaurants, a bar and a wine cellar.

High above Zermatt

Riffelalp sits at 2,222 metres, 600 metres above the village, and you take the railway down to Zermatt. In winter you ski to the door; in summer the same position puts you straight onto hiking and biking trails. The hotel opens for two seasons: for the winter of 2026–27 from 11 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, and for summer 2027 from 18 June to 20 September.

Spa 2’222m

The spa is reserved for hotel guests, and the hotel calls it the highest in Europe. You drift between an indoor and an outdoor pool, swimming outside with the Matterhorn ahead, then on to a saline grotto, a whirlpool, steam baths and two saunas, with a small fitness room and a menu of massages and rituals.

Lose yourself in the vastness of the Valais mountains and the stillness of untouched nature, in the hotel’s words.

In winter the indoor pool and fitness room open from 7.00 to 19.45, and the outdoor pool and wellness area from 14.00 to 19.45, so plan to swim outside after skiing. In summer the outdoor pool opens from 10.00.

Rooms and suites

There are 65 rooms and five suites, and many look to the Matterhorn. Rooms come in Natur and Matterhorn categories, from Classic to Superior; the suites run from Cosy and Matterhorn Junior Suites to the Monte Rosa and Matterhorn suites. For families or friends, two apartments in the Alpenresidenz Augstkumme, about 100 m from the hotel, include a two-bedroom flat for four and a duplex.

Eating and drinking

Restaurant Alexandre serves Swiss and local dishes at breakfast and dinner, and Ristorante Al Bosco Italian and Swiss cooking at lunch and dinner. In winter the Walliserkeller opens for alpine dinners. Bar 2’222m has bar and sun terraces, and the Vinothek, the wine cellar, hosts tastings and private dinners.

Our advice: book a Matterhorn room, ski your last run home and swim outdoors before the pool closes at 19.45, and save one night for the Walliserkeller in winter.
