About Skarsnuten Hotel

Skarsnuten stands on a mountain shelf at 1,002 metres, with the valley on one side and the ski centre on the other. Its 88 rooms run from singles to suites, its spa has a Finnish sauna, a steam sauna, a jacuzzi, a cold bath and experience showers with a view, and Lynx and Miru cook modern Nordic and Japanese-Nordic food.

At the top of Hemsedal

Skarsnuten is built of stone, wood and glass on a shelf of the mountain at 1,002 metres, with the ski centre as its neighbour and the whole valley below. The hotel opens every day through the winter from 9 December 2026; in autumn it opens Wednesday to Sunday, and in July every day.

The spa

The spa is sold on its view. Inside are a Finnish sauna and a steam sauna, a jacuzzi, a cold bath, two foot baths and three experience showers, with treatments using Kerstin Florian and other vegan and organic products. The menu runs from massages, including an Alpine Recovery massage, to facials and a Green Clay wrap, and there is a 30-minute massage for children.

Welcome to the top of Hemsedal, in the hotel’s words.

Age rules are clear. Children aged 10 and over may use the spa with an adult in the morning session, 10am–12.30pm; the day, afternoon and evening sessions, until 9.30pm, are for 16 and over, and children under 10 are not admitted. Hotel guests paid NOK 195 for spa entry in autumn 2026, with the gym included; the gym opens 6am–10pm in winter, from age 15.

Rooms

There are 88 rooms in four types: singles, doubles, deluxe rooms and suites. Rooms look out on Hemsedal on one side or on the ski centre on the other, and have a desk and a large bathroom with L’Occitane soaps.

Eating and drinking

Lynx, on several levels of stone, wood and glass, cooks modern Nordic food inspired by the mountains, forests and fjords of Western Norway, with a seasonal menu and a view over the valley; it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to guests and visitors. Miru, whose name means “to see” in Japanese, serves traditional Japanese flavours with a modern Nordic twist on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings in winter, reopening in December 2026. The bar has a wine cellar, more than 40 gins and a mocktail list, with a terrace for the sun, and on Saturdays there is après-ski with a DJ.

Our advice: book a room on the valley side for the view, go to the spa in the evening session if you are travelling without children, and reserve Miru for a Friday or Saturday night.
