About The Wort Hotel
The Wort Hotel opened in 1941, built by the sons of a homesteader who arrived in Jackson Hole in 1893, and stands half a block from Jackson’s Town Square. It has 55 rooms, among them five Western Theme Suites, more than 175 pieces of Western art and the Silver Dollar Bar & Grill.
Downtown Jackson
The Wort Hotel stands in the heart of downtown Jackson, half a block from Town Square, within walking distance of the town’s shops, galleries and restaurants. Its story starts with Charles Wort, a homesteader who arrived in 1893; his sons John and Jess opened the hotel in 1941. It survived a fire in 1980, reopened in 1981 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Rooms and suites
There are 55 rooms, including five Western Theme Suites, decorated with original art. Western King rooms measure 350 sq ft, the Junior King Suite, the largest single room, is 450 sq ft with a sitting area and wet bar, and two-room suites connect two king rooms with two bathrooms. The Silver Dollar Suite is the premier accommodation. Wifi and self-parking are included.
Eating, drinking and music
The Silver Dollar Bar & Grill, added in 1950, is famous for its bar inlaid with uncirculated 1921 Morgan silver dollars, serving burgers, elk gyros and corn chowder with a long wine list. Food is served 11am–10pm and the bar is open until 11pm; it takes no reservations for the bar, and after 6pm you must be 21 to enter. The Silver Dollar Showroom is downtown Jackson’s music venue, with local and regional bands on a first-come basis.
Our advice: stay at the Wort for Jackson’s history and its nightlife on the doorstep, book a Western Theme Suite, and arrive early at the Silver Dollar on live-music nights.
