About Werdenfelserei

The Werdenfelserei is a wooden design hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, by the Mühlbach and the Michael-Ende spa gardens. Its 1,000 m² spa has a rooftop pool and Swiss stone pine saunas, its suites have fireplaces and private saunas, and the Wurzelwerk restaurant cooks Alpine regional menus.

Wood, water and the spa gardens

The Werdenfelserei stands in Garmisch-Partenkirchen beside the Mühlbach stream and the Michael-Ende spa gardens, with the Kramer and the Zugspitze in view. It is built of wood, inside and out.

The spa

The spa covers about 1,000 m² on two levels. The rooftop pool has its own terrace, and the Finnish sauna (90 °C) and biosauna (60 °C) are both lined with Swiss stone pine, as is the infrared cabin, with a gentler steam bath beside them. The quiet room has a fireplace, panoramic windows, swinging loungers and daybeds on the gallery, and there are massages and treatments, yoga and fitness.

Our cuisine is deeply rooted in the Alpine region, but never stands still, in the hotel’s words.

From 1 November the spa opens from 8.00 to 20.00, the Finnish sauna from 11.00 and the biosauna and steam bath from 12.00. The spa is open to all ages, but this is not a children’s hotel: children must be supervised in the pool, and the house asks for quiet indoors.

Rooms and suites

Studios measure 28–35 m², with balconies looking to the Zugspitze, the Kramer or the gardens; Studio M has a separate children’s room with bunk beds, and the Gartenstudio a terrace. The suites are the reason to come: the Top Suite (60 m²) with a fireplace, sauna, hot tub and rooftop terrace; the two-storey Chalet Suite (90 m²) with a fireplace, private sauna and exposed beams; the Spa Suite (60 m², two bedrooms) with a fireplace, sauna and balcony over the Mühlbach; and the Fire Suite, with a fire you can see from the bed and a freestanding bath. Nine apartments are let at the Fiakerhof nearby.

Eating and drinking

Wurzelwerk cooks Alpine regional food with local produce and modern technique. You compose your own three- or four-course menu, with or without wine, share a menu with four or more people, or take the six-course Fireworks menu.

Our advice: book the Chalet Suite or Top Suite for a private sauna, swim on the roof at 8.00, and choose the Fireworks menu on your last night.
