About Hotel Dubrovnik
Hotel Dubrovnik stands on Ban Jelačić Square, where the trams meet, an easy start for a ski morning on Sljeme. It opened in 1929 and has 214 rooms and 8 suites, the art deco Kavana Dubrovnik, an American steakhouse and a fitness centre open around the clock. See our Zagreb guide.
On Zagreb’s main square
Hotel Dubrovnik stands at Gajeva ulica 1 on Ban Jelačić Square, the heart of Zagreb, where the trams meet; from here it is an easy start for a morning on Sljeme. The site began in 1829 as a merchant’s house with a large café on its ground floor. In 1929 the café made way for a new hotel, and in 1942 it took the name Dubrovnik.
A gym, not a spa
There is no spa. The fitness centre is open 24 hours for hotel guests, and airport transfers can be booked at reception.
A century of stories on Zagreb’s main square, in the hotel’s words.
Rooms and suites
There are 214 rooms and 8 suites, from standard singles to Deluxe King rooms and Junior and Executive Suites. Every room has air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a safe and soundproof windows, which matter on the main square. The Presidential Suite on the sixth floor has 70 m² and a 30 m² terrace over Ban Jelačić Square. Small pets up to 10 kg are accepted for a fee.
Eating and drinking
Kavana Dubrovnik, the art deco café, has been a meeting place for Zagreb’s business and cultural life for generations, with its lobby bar alongside. The American Steak & Grill House serves T-bone, New York strip and porterhouse steaks. Breakfast runs 6.30–10am, until 10.30am at weekends and on holidays, and room service 7am–10pm.
Our advice: ask for a room facing the square, take the tram towards Sljeme early, and come back to coffee at Kavana Dubrovnik.
