About New Sheridan Hotel
The New Sheridan has stood on Telluride’s Main Street since 1895, its rooms dressed by the designer Nina Campbell and its public spaces hung with the art of Roger Mason. It has 26 rooms, three restaurants and four bars, among them the Chop House and the Historic Bar, one of the oldest in the West.
A Main Street landmark
The New Sheridan has watched Telluride turn from a mining town into a ski town. It stands in the historic heart of downtown, with the trails and shops around it and the gondola a short walk away, and it is still where Telluride gathers.
Rooms
There are 26 rooms, decorated by Nina Campbell. Cozy interior rooms are quiet, without views; second-floor rooms mostly overlook Main Street and the ski area; third-floor Pandora rooms are the largest, facing the mountains, with walk-in closets; and third-floor Main Street rooms have the finest views, across to the ski area and 13,000-foot Ballard Mountain. The Prospector Junior Suite adds a large sitting area, and the Ballard Suite, the largest, has a separate living room and a direct view of Ballard Peak. Rooms facing Main Street hear some street life.
A Main Street fixture for over 125 years, in the hotel’s words.
Eating and drinking
The Chop House & Wine Bar is a classic steakhouse with mountain game, aged Western beef and bison, and a wine list served partly from a nitrogen wine bar. The Parlor, in the lobby, is café, wine bar and restaurant at once, with an espresso bar in the morning and sidewalk tables in summer. The Historic Bar, open from 3pm until late, keeps its original 1895 lead-glass panels, mahogany and filigree lights, with billiards and live music on Thursdays. The Roof serves drinks and casual food under the peaks in summer.
No spa, by design
The New Sheridan is a town hotel: there is no spa or pool. The treat here is history, the bars and Main Street on your doorstep.
Our advice: ask for a third-floor Main Street room or the Ballard Suite for the view, eat at the Chop House on your first night, and take a nightcap in the Historic Bar.
