About The Peaks Resort & Spa
The Peaks Resort & Spa stands high in Telluride’s Mountain Village, ski-in, ski-out and golf-in, golf-out, with views of Mount Wilson and the San Sophia ridge. Its spa, which the resort calls Colorado’s largest, covers 42,000 sq ft, with pools, Roman tubs, a salon and studios for yoga and Pilates.
High in Mountain Village
The Peaks stands on Country Club Drive in Mountain Village, on the golf course and on the slopes of Telluride Ski Resort, among the San Juan Mountains, home to the highest concentration of 13,000 and 14,000-foot peaks in North America. You ski in and out, the scenic gondola runs down to the historic town, and in summer you golf in and out.
The Spa at The Peaks
The spa is the reason many guests come. Spread over 42,000 sq ft and open from 7am to 8:30pm, it offers massages, aesthetics and body treatments, a full-service salon and a spa boutique, with Roman tubs, hot tubs and steam rooms. Guests reach it indoors from their rooms.
Colorado’s largest spa, in the resort’s words, inside a 42,000 sq ft sanctuary.
The fitness centre is unusually complete: a Matrix gym, a cardio room, fitness studios, a yoga studio and a fully equipped Pilates studio, a heated indoor and outdoor pool, a three-lane lap pool and classes, with trainers and teachers for private sessions. In summer the Telluride Racquet Club next door has four red clay tennis courts and four pickleball courts.
Rooms, suites and penthouses
Rooms are rustic and light, with Alpine and Sunset Vista views and balconies on request; most rooms use ceiling fans rather than air conditioning, as Telluride’s summers are mild. The Alpenglow Junior Suite measures 620 sq ft, with a west-facing balcony over the golf course to Mount Wilson; the Grande Alpine Vista Suite is 820 sq ft, with a separate living room and two bathrooms. The Signature Collection suites have been remodelled with kitchens and gas fireplaces in some, and at the top of the building the penthouses have four or five bedrooms, among them the three-level “TipTop” with 270-degree views from the tenth floor.
Eating and drinking
The Silver Pick Café serves locally roasted coffee, pastries from Baked in Telluride and breakfast burritos from 7am to 2pm. The Great Room and its deck, open from 3pm to 9pm, are the après stop, with a fire inside, craft cocktails and some of the best views in Mountain Village outside.
Our advice: book a suite with a balcony facing Mount Wilson, give one day to the spa and its pools, and take the gondola down to town for dinner. Families get the most from a penthouse.
