About Chalet Sofija
Chalet Sofija is a villa in the forest on a hill above Gozd Martuljek, in the Julian Alps, with five suites that each look to the Špik peak on one side and the Kranjska Gora ski slope on the other. Its owners brought the cooking of their Ljubljana restaurant As to the mountains, and the house has a Finnish and a Turkish sauna and a heated outdoor pool.
A villa in the forest
Chalet Sofija stands alone in the forest at Srednji Vrh, on the hillside above the village of Gozd Martuljek, a few minutes’ drive from Kranjska Gora. Every suite has the same double view: the Špik peak on one side and the Kranjska Gora ski slope on the other. Mornings bring the sunrise over the mountains; evenings, the sunset from the terrace.
Saunas and pool
The wellness area is intimate: a Finnish sauna with a sunset view over Kranjska Gora, a Turkish sauna for two, a relaxation corner for a glass of sparkling wine, a fitness area, and a heated outdoor pool on the terrace. Suite guests have unlimited use of it.

The suites
There are only five suites, furnished with Roche Bobois pieces: the Presidential Suites Izak and Aleksander, and the suites Kristijan, Tara and Izabela. Izak measures 90 m² inside, with an east-facing 80 m² terrace of lawn and sheepskin-covered loungers, a jacuzzi facing the sofa, a desk and a designer wooden indoor bike. Stays can be booked for up to three nights.
Eating at Sofija
The owners ran As, one of Ljubljana’s best-known family restaurants, and brought the concept here. The chef, known as Pope, cooks himself in an open kitchen in front of guests, with premium local produce and a varied wine list. Breakfast comes with the sunrise over the mountains, and dinner is a multi-course menu; wine pairing is extra.
Our advice: book one of the Presidential Suites for the terrace, ski Kranjska Gora by day and be back for the sauna at sunset, then let the evening run on at the open kitchen. With five suites, book well ahead for the winter holidays.
