The Regent Hotel stands in the heart of downtown Revelstoke, a heritage building with roots in the town’s railway days and, it says, one of Canada’s oldest family-owned hotels. Its rooms are all different, and it offers a sauna and outdoor hot tub, breakfast included and two restaurants with live music.

A railway-town hotel

Before it was the Regent, the property was two neighbouring hotels, the Windsor and the Selkirk. Charles Turnross, son of a Swedish immigrant who came to work on the Canadian Pacific Railway, bought the Windsor in 1919; it became the Regent in 1945, and in the 1980s the two buildings were joined under one name. The family still runs it, in the middle of downtown Revelstoke.

Sauna and hot tub

There is no spa, but the wood-panelled sauna and the outdoor hot tub are the hotel’s most popular comforts after a day on the mountain. The fitness centre, with free weights, treadmills, bikes and a weight machine, is open from 6am to 11pm.

Rooms

No two rooms are alike, many with mountain views, blending the heritage building’s character with modern comforts. Deluxe King rooms are spacious, Executive rooms have a queen bed and a desk, Deluxe 2 Queen rooms sleep four, and the Signature Two Queen Suite has two separate bedrooms. Pets are welcome.

Eating and drinking

A hot breakfast is included at the Mt. Begbie Breakfast Café from 7am to 10am. The 112 Restaurant & Lounge, serving Revelstoke since 1978, offers BC salmon, roast lamb and steaks with craft cocktails and live music from its corner stage, and River City Pub & Patio is the lively local with daily specials and events.

Our advice: ask for a room with a mountain view, have dinner at the 112, and take the sauna and hot tub after skiing.
