About Sunshine Mountain Lodge

Sunshine Mountain Lodge sits high in Sunshine Village Ski & Snowboard Resort, reached by gondola, the only ski-in, ski-out hotel in Banff National Park. It offers Deluxe rooms, West Wing premier and loft rooms and main-lodge suites, with Banff’s largest outdoor hot tub, a sauna, Cedar + Sage Spa and three restaurants.

Above the clouds

The lodge stands at around 7,200 ft in the heart of Sunshine Village, so you are first on the slopes each morning and the mountain is yours once the day skiers have gone down the gondola. Shuttles run from Banff to the base, 20 minutes away, and on Friday nights a last gondola at 10pm lets you spend the evening in town.

Hot tub, sauna and spa

Banff’s largest outdoor hot tub is the lodge’s great pleasure, slopeside under the stars, with a cedar-lined dry sauna beside it. Cedar + Sage Spa, inside the lodge, offers personalised massages, facials and spa packages, and the gym has a treadmill, elliptical, bike and rowing machine.

The only ski-in/ski-out hotel in Banff National Park, in the lodge’s words.

Rooms and suites

Deluxe Waterfall View rooms in the main lodge face the Waterfall run and are among the quietest; Deluxe Balcony rooms have a private slopeside balcony. In the West Wing, Premier rooms have in-floor heating, gas fireplaces and floor-to-ceiling mountain views, and the condo-like Loft rooms look at Lookout Mountain through 27 ft of glass. Main Lodge Suites add king beds, fireplaces, balconies and spa-like bathrooms.

Eating, drinking and evenings

Eagle’s Nest Canadian Bistro, on the mezzanine, serves dinner from 5pm to 9pm with views of Lookout Mountain and specialities such as bison, salmon and AAA Alberta beef. The Chimney Corner, with two wood-burning fireplaces and bay windows, serves breakfast, lunch, après and dinner, and the Java Lift Coffee Bar runs from 7am to 4.30pm. Mad Trapper’s, in a 1928 Canadian Pacific Railway lodge, is the rustic pub for adults. Evenings bring tobogganing, snowshoe tours and hot-tub bingo, and there are family and activity rooms.

Our advice: book a West Wing Loft for the view, take the last run straight to the hot tub, and reserve a window table at Eagle’s Nest.
