About Dunton Town House

Dunton Town House is a five-bedroom bed-and-breakfast hotel at 210 Oak Street, on one of Telluride’s prettiest streets, two minutes’ walk from the gondola. Once the Montana Placer Inn, it is decorated with custom furniture, Tyrolean antiques and Austrian ceramics, with a house manager and a 24-hour concierge.

A house on Oak Street

The Town House dates from Telluride’s mining era and was once the Montana Placer Inn. Its renovation drew on the legacy of the Tyrolean immigrants who settled the San Juans and the owner’s own ties to Tyrol: custom furnishings, Tyrolean antiques, fabrics imported from Tyrol and Austrian ceramics. It is a two-minute walk to the gondola and three to Main Street.

The five bedrooms

There are five bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom and a king bed, one convertible to twins. Auerhahn, on the ground floor, has a gas stove; Hirsch has mountain views; and Mankei, in a separate building, has a large private deck and welcomes pets by arrangement.

There is no better location for experiencing all Telluride has to offer, in the house’s words.

Service

There is no spa, but there is service. A house manager arranges ski passes and dinner reservations, fly fishing on the San Miguel River and treks on the local Via Ferrata, and the concierge is on hand around the clock. Dunton Hot Springs, the group’s hot-springs retreat, is about an hour and a half’s drive away, an hour in summer, which makes a fine pairing for a longer trip.

Our advice: take the whole house for a family or a group of friends, ask the house manager to plan your ski days, and add a few nights at Dunton Hot Springs.
