About Badrutt's Palace Hotel

Badrutt’s Palace was founded in 1896 by Caspar Badrutt and still stands as the landmark of St. Moritz, its tower above the lake on Via Serlas. It has Palace Wellness with a new indoor-outdoor infinity pool, spa suites and a salt steam room, rooms and suites from the Serlas Wing by Loro Piana Interiors to the Tower Penthouse, and up to eleven restaurants and bars.

The palace on the lake

Caspar Badrutt opened the Palace in 1896, and its tower has defined St. Moritz ever since. Coco Chanel, Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock and Marlene Dietrich were guests; the hotel tells us that one of its suites is where Hitchcock found the idea for The Birds. It stands on Via Serlas, the town’s luxury shopping street, looking over Lake St. Moritz.

Palace Wellness

The wellness centre was redesigned between 2008 and 2010, and in 2024 a new outdoor pool was added: the largest in St. Moritz, as the hotel says, heated with water from the lake. The infinity pool runs indoors and out, with a jacuzzi; restful zones lie to the left of the pool and active zones to the right. There are saunas, a salt steam room, private Spa Suites, a menu of Ayurvedic therapies, massages and facials, a Technogym fitness centre with personal trainers and the Palace Coiffeur, a St. Moritz institution. La Diala, inside the spa, serves light dishes with mountain views.

Timeless, legendary, incomparable: the Palace of St. Moritz, in the hotel’s words.

Rooms and suites

Rooms run from Superior rooms on the village side, facing Corviglia, to Deluxe and Signature rooms over the lake, some with balconies. The Serlas Wing, designed with Loro Piana Interiors and ACPV Architects, has rooms and suites in wool and cashmere, including the 159 m² Serlas Two-Bedroom Suite. At the top, the Tower Penthouse Apartment occupies the three upper floors of the tower, with four bedrooms.

Eating and drinking

There are up to eleven restaurants. Le Grand Hall is the living room of St. Moritz, with afternoon tea to a live pianist. La Coupole – Matsuhisa, in the old tennis hall under a glass dome, serves Nobu Matsuhisa’s Japanese–Peruvian cooking; Le Relais does Belle Époque gueridon service over the lake. In the old Chesa Veglia farmhouse are the Pizzeria Heuboden, Patrizier Stuben, Grill Chadafö, the Carigiet Fondue Stübli and the Polo Bar. King’s Social House, by Jason Atherton, is a bistro by evening and a nightclub by night, and Paradiso Mountain Club serves Alpine food and music on the slopes. The Renaissance Bar is for whisky, cigars and Champagne.

Families

The Palazzino Kids Club offers creative programmes for children aged 3–12, and teenagers have their own Arcade Area.

Our advice: ask for a Signature room with a lake-view balcony, swim out into the infinity pool at dusk, and book La Coupole on a Saturday night.
