About Grand Hotel Royal e Golf
The Grand Hotel Royal e Golf has stood on Via Roma, in the heart of Courmayeur, since 1854, and takes its name from Queen Margherita of Savoy, who loved these valleys. It has 70 rooms, the Royal Spa with Turkish bath, saunas and a private spa for couples, and four places to eat and drink, from the Grand Royal to the Champagnerie Royal.
Since 1854
The Royal has welcomed guests on Via Roma since 1854. Queen Margherita of Savoy stayed here and loved the quiet valleys, and the hotel took the title Royal in her honour. It is still the grand address of the pedestrian centre, with long views to Mont Blanc and the Mont Crammont.
The Royal Spa
The spa is a small refuge of wellbeing in the heart of Courmayeur, as the hotel puts it, open daily from 10am to 8pm. There is a Turkish bath, an indoor sauna and, in winter, an outdoor Finnish sauna, with a gym and a menu of massages and treatments. The Private Spa is a space for couples, with its own hydromassage, sauna and Turkish bath.

Young people under 16 are welcome in the spa with an adult, but the sauna and Turkish bath are for over-16s only. Swimwear is worn in the wet area.
Rooms and suites
There are 70 rooms. Classic rooms with balconies measure 16 m² and look to the Mont Crammont; Superior rooms (Mont Crammont) and Deluxe rooms (Mont Blanc) are 25 m². The Junior Suite is 35 m², and the Suite and the Family Grand Deluxe, for four with a view of Mont Blanc, are 50 m².
Eating and drinking
The Grand Royal dining room was designed by Gio Ponti, with wide windows that frame Mont Blanc, and serves dinner daily from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The Bistrot Royal celebrates Aosta Valley cooking, open Wednesday to Monday. The Champagnerie Royal is for bubbles, and the Royal Lounge Bar, once the meeting place of nobles and writers staying in Courmayeur, is open daily from 10.30am to midnight.
Winter experiences
The hotel organises ice-driving with instructors, dinner on the slopes reached by snowmobile, snowshoe walks by day or moonlight, night snow-bike rides and cross-country skiing in Val Ferret.
Our advice: ask for a Deluxe room facing Mont Blanc, book dinner in the Gio Ponti dining room, and take a glass in the Champagnerie before you go out on Via Roma.
