The Grand Hotel Sestriere is in the centre of the resort, near the lifts, shops and services. It is built of wood and stone, with a fire lit and a ski room, a spa of Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, hydromassage and relaxation area, and suites named for the Olympics and for skiing history.

In the centre

Sestriere wakes early, as the hotel says, and the Grand Hotel is where the day starts and ends. It stands in the centre, near the lifts, shops and services, with wood and stone on the walls, a fire lit and a ski room where you leave your boots without a thought. From here the Via Lattea runs to the French border.

The spa

The spa keeps to what matters: a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath, a hydromassage, an emotional shower and a relaxation area. Massages are relaxing or targeted at muscles after hours on skis or trails.

Nothing built to impress, in the hotel’s words: warm rooms, things done well, and a team that knows your name by the second day.

Rooms and suites

Standard rooms are cosy and practical; Superior rooms are larger and brighter, good for families. The suites carry names from the resort’s history: the Suite Torino 2006, inspired by the Winter Olympics; the Suite Flavio Roda, roomy enough for families with small children; and the Suite Re di Norvegia, intimate and elegant.

Eating and drinking

The kitchen reinterprets Alpine traditions with elegance, and the hotel has its own app for services, weather and local tips.

Our advice: book the Suite Torino 2006 for a sense of place, take the first run at dawn, and spend the late afternoon in the sauna.
