The Wren is a long-standing condominium lodge between Golden Peak and Vail Village, a short walk from Gondola One and the Golden Peak ski school. Its individually owned condos, from studios to three bedrooms, all have full kitchens and gas fireplaces, with a year-round heated pool and two hot tubs.

Between Golden Peak and the village

The Wren has welcomed guests for generations from its spot on the South Frontage Road, a short walk from Gondola One, the Golden Peak ski school, Betty Ford Alpine Gardens and the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. In winter a skier shuttle runs from the door.

Pool and hot tubs

There is no spa, but the year-round heated outdoor pool, two hot tubs and three gas grills make a sociable courtyard after skiing or in the summer sun, with shuffleboard and a seating area alongside. On Tuesdays the welcome party serves wine and cheese in winter and barbecue in summer, included with your stay.

The condominiums

The condos are individually owned, from updated retreats to classic Alpine interiors. Studios measure 600 sq ft; one-bedroom, two-bath units 700 sq ft; the one-bedroom with den 900 sq ft, with a jetted tub and a steam shower; two-bedroom units 1,100 sq ft; and the three-bedroom with den 1,275 sq ft, with views of Vail Mountain. All have full kitchens and gas fireplaces, and most have balconies looking to the Gore Range or Golden Peak.

Practical comforts

On-site parking is included, there is a laundry and a grocery delivery service, and the front desk serves morning coffee and afternoon lemonade or cider.

Our advice: choose The Wren for space and value close to Golden Peak, book a two- or three-bedroom unit for a family, and cook the first night with the gas grills by the pool.
