About Tivoli Lodge
Tivoli Lodge was opened in 1968 by Bob and Diane Lazier, who first came to Vail on honeymoon in its very first season, and is run today by the second generation. Rebuilt in 2006 in Tyrolean style, it has 65 rooms and suites, a mountainside hot tub and slopeside access to Gondola One.
A Vail family story
The Laziers honeymooned in Vail in January 1963, during the resort’s first ski season, and five years later opened the original Tivoli Lodge. The building was renewed from the ground up in 2006, steeped in Tyrolean tradition, and the family still runs it, down to the resident chocolate Labrador, Racer, the latest in a line of lodge dogs.
Hot tub and fitness
The lodge has no spa, but its mountainside outdoor hot tub and fire pit, open all year with views of the Rockies, are the place to end the ski day. The fitness centre has a Peloton bike with digital classes, cardio machines and weights.
Old-world Tyrolean charm with the access guests expect in Vail Village, in the hotel’s words.
Rooms and suites
The 65 rooms and suites look out to Vail Mountain and Golden Peak or over the village, many with gas fireplaces and some with Juliet balconies. Mountain View rooms have a king or two queens; the octagonal Tower Rooms have panoramic views; the Seibert Suite adds a kitchen and living room; and the Penthouse Suite has two king bedrooms, a full kitchen, dining and living rooms and three large balconies over Vail Mountain and the Gore Range. Linens are 350-count Egyptian cotton, and every room has a microwave, mini-fridge and coffee maker.
Breakfast and the lounge
A full hot buffet breakfast is served each morning in the Grand Lobby, and in the evening the Brown Hound Lounge, the lobby bar, is where guests trade stories of the day. The hotel’s pages differ on whether breakfast is included or charged, so confirm when you book.
Skiing and summer
Gondola One and the chairlifts are within a block, and the lodge offers ski storage and a ski valet. From summer into autumn, Quietkat electric bikes are included in your stay for rides through the village or off-road on the mountain. Dogs are welcome in pet-friendly rooms, arranged before arrival.
Our advice: ask for a Mountain View room with a fireplace, or a Tower Room for the views, and save the hot tub for the hour the lifts close.
